Our GP Registrars are pursuing a career in General Practice. The Registrars change every 6 months.

They spend 4 months in general practice after 12-18 months of hospital Practice.

Community Nurse for the Frail and Elderly cohort of patients, offering support to patients who are unable to attend the surgery.

JOANNE MANUEL

Nurses

Our highly qualified nurses deal with a range of conditions and health concerns. They examine patients, make a diagnosis and plan care, including prescribing certain products. They undertake a wide range of procedures including Cervical smear tests, ECGs, Ear syringing, Injections, Routine immunisations, Dressings, Travel vaccinations and advice concerning minor ailments and injuries.They are particularly concerned with preventing disease and promoting good health. There are nurse-led clinics providing information and monitoring for those with Diabetes, Asthma and High Blood Pressure.

JILLIAN WALKER

Jillian is able to see patients with minor injuries, minor illnesses, administer various injections, coil checks and provide General Nursing Services. She has a specialist interest in Asthma, COPD and Respiratory issues.

Martin is responsible for the overall management and operation of the Practice and, from a patient perspective, oversees issues relating to staff and the building. If the Assistant Manager (Nicki) is not available, Martin is also available to discuss suggestions or receive complaints.

This is a joint post with Great Lumley Surgery, Middle Chare Medical Group and Sacriston Surgery.

Reception

Our team of receptionists are here to help you. They answer the phone, deal with enquiries and take repeat prescriptions. Their job is very demanding so please be patient. When telephoning for medical attention the Receptionist may ask you for a few details; all our reception staff are fully trained and ask for these details in order that we can help you in the most appropriate way. All medical information, which is held on your behalf, is governed by the Data Protection Act and staff are vigilant in ensuring that only essential information is made known to other practice staff. Receptionists are the engine house of the surgery, doing a wide range of administrative jobs, answering telephone calls and greeting patients at the counter. At times there may be slight delays so please be patient until they can attend to you. Lynsey is our Reception Team Leader and oversees the reception team, ensuring administrative duties are carried out accordingly.

Karen and Jemma are our secretaries and amongst other duties do all your hospital referrals.

Health Visitors

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.
